The Minister of Labor defended the revaluation of pensions to 1200 euros, without answering precisely on the number of people who would be affected by this measure, in the event of the adoption of the executive bill.

A Minister of Labor in difficulty who ends up dropping a punchline to defend his action. This Tuesday, during the examination of the pension reform, the rebellious deputies multiplied the questions with regard to Olivier Dussopt. Objective: to know the number of people who will be affected by a minimum pension of 1200 euros, after the government bill.

And, in passing, undermine the presidential camp which has maintained the vagueness on this subject. True social banner of its text, this measure was to make it possible, thanks to a revaluation of 100 euros, to guarantee a minimum pension of 1200 euros. Yes, but for whom? Many understood that it would be all retirees. Missed: only people with a full, full-time career and who have received the Smic throughout their professional life, will be affected by this provision.

“Not one of you who would make it simpler”

So how many people will be affected? Faced with numerous requests from elected La France insoumise (LFI), Olivier Dussopt refused to give a precise figure, referring the discussions to the examination of article 10 relating to the revaluation of pensions. Which has very little chance of being discussed at the moment: the debates in the National Assembly end on Friday and article 2 has just been rejected on Tuesday evening.

“Not once will I say in front of you ‘there will be a near unit number of beneficiaries stacking 1200 euros stack plus 100 euros’ because we will be in orders of magnitude of a few tens of thousands”, explained Olivier Dussopt. “I don’t think there is one of you who would make it easier,” he defended himself against the challenges. Before indulging in a punchline:

“Perfection is rarely found in the mouths of those who criticize, more often in the hands of those who do”.

Immediate effect: the parliamentarians of the majority applauded him. Not sure, however, that this will make the opposition forget the difficulties of the government on this measure.
