ANDThis is the opinion of a Microsoft expert, Yusuf Mehdi, expressed in an interview with an Efe journalist, Sarah Yáñez-Richards.

This company vice president and director of consumer marketing at Microsoft thus responded to the alarms raised by several industry experts about the rapid advance of AI and the danger of it being able to get out of control.

“The core of AI is predicting text. It’s predicting what comes next. But it needs human understanding. Humans are the ones that connect with the AI and tell it what to do,” he said.

Mehdi attributes the fear of AI in part to its novelty, which became popular with the launch of OpenIA’s ChatGPT six months ago, as well as advertisements for AI ‘chatbots’ on Edge and Google search engines, respectively. Bing and Bard, three months ago.

“We have to go through this cycle of understanding technology (…) and, as we learn more, I believe these fears will pass”, he underlined.

However, other experts, such as Geoffrey Hinton, considered the ‘godfather’ of AI, who worked for Google, recently expressed his concerns about the dangers that these naked technologies pose, in an interview with The New York Times.

“This idea that these things (AI) could actually become smarter than people, was something that some people believed in. But mostly they thought it would take a long time. I thought this, that there would be between 30 to 50 years, or maybe more. Obviously, I don’t think so anymore,” Hinton added in the interview.

To dispel this fear about the future of this technology, Mehdi commented to EFE that “responsibility in the construction of AI” is key in his company.

As he said: “We have a responsible AI framework, we have principles that we apply to all technology before we release it. Principles like: is our focus transparent? Are we protecting children? Are we inclusive? We include everyone in the world in this technology?”, he highlighted.
