Santiago de Cuba, August 7, 2023 – This Monday night, an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 on the Richter scale was registered at 10:26 pm, mainly affecting Santiago de Cuba. The National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) provided details details of the event.

According to the report of the Cuban National Seismological Service, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 47 km southeast of Santiago de Cuba, at the coordinates 19.67 degrees north latitude and -75.57 degrees west longitude. The earthquake had a depth of 3.2 km.

Immediately after the quake, several residents of the region took to social media to share their experience. A post on Facebook mentioned: “A few minutes ago there was an earthquake in Santiago de Cuba, the perceptible earthquake was felt by part of the population.” Another user expressed: “Did it just shake hard or is it my idea.”

Although the earthquake was perceptible in various areas, including Guantánamo and Holguín, fortunately, no material or human damage has been reported. This event is classified as the perceptible earthquake number 8 of the year 2023.

The population remains on alert and awaits more information from the corresponding authorities, but so far, the outlook remains calm.
