The relationship of DSDS darling Pietro Lombardi (30) and his fiancé Laura Maria Rypa (27) was a roller coaster ride. Six separations, then pregnancy and engagement. But now it shall be forever.
Pietro sat down at a table with BILD reporter John Puthenpurackal and unpacked the big themes of his (love) life: the time before the engagement, how he asked Laura’s dad for his daughter’s hand, the wedding planning and which surname to carry their little son.

▶︎ The time before the engagement
Pietro Lombardi was married to Sarah Engels (30) in his first marriage, but before the wedding in 2013 he did not ask her father Heinz for his daughter’s hand. It was different with Laura.
“Everything that happened before the engagement was the first time for me.” Pietro’s knees shook when he drove to Laura’s dad. “Two weeks before the engagement and I was dead nervous. I’m very self-confident and I like to talk, but my balls got really small,” admits Pietro.
Without further ado, he then rang Laura’s parents’ bell and … first had to go to the toilet. The nervousness probably hit the bladder. “Before that, I patted the father on the shoulder and said: ‘I have to talk to you right away'” Papa Rypa was then quite tense. “I think he thought: ‘Okay, he wants to leave my daughter now'”, he suspects 30 year old.

But instead another bomb went off. Pietro announced that Laura was pregnant and added that THAT was the perfect time to ring the wedding bells too. “The father then became very emotional. It was all very emotional,” remembers the DSDS juror. And further: “The parents also told me that they are very happy that their daughter now has the man by her side who they know would never cheat on her and who they know can sleep peacefully .”
Not only Laura’s parents are happy for the couple, but also Pietro’s family. Lombardi: “I have to say that my family was also very happy. When I said I was going to marry Laura, my mom was extremely emotional.”
By the way, for Pietro’s mom it will be her son’s first wedding. She missed her promise to Sarah Engels in 2013 and also found out about it from the press.

“I wanted to make her feel good”
▶︎ The reasons for the application
Pietro was already thinking about an engagement BEFORE the pregnancy, he admits to BILD. “But somehow I didn’t really dare,” says Pietro. In the previous six months, he had repeatedly hinted at a wedding and even asked if his beloved would say “yes” at all.
“She said yes, even then. But I didn’t know if an application would not have been too hasty. That’s a big step,” says the 30-year-old, describing his concerns. And indeed: in 2020 the love rollercoaster began. Six separations until the next public announcement of love in June 2022. Stability and a secure future together looked different from DA.
But they both left this phase behind, they even went to couples therapy together, as Pietro tells BILD.
The myth, laura have Pietro to application urged, by the way I don’t agree. “She neither put pressure on me nor blackmailed me. It is certainly normal for a woman to say, ‘Make me an offer now.’ The DSDS winner also noticed that she had expressed her wish to marry her mother.

When will the wedding bells ring? Pietro to BILD: “I have no idea when exactly, but then the child will definitely be there.”
However, there is no concrete plan yet. The ring on your finger is enough at first. But one thing is certain: First comes the registry office and then the big party. Pietro: “But maybe it will be postponed to the year after next. There’s no pressure.”
And further: “I just wanted to make it clear that Laura knows that she is my wife and that I want to marry her. I also wanted to make her feel good about it.” The hormones during pregnancy are bad enough, he just wants to show that she can count on a loyal man. A little security for the previously turbulent relationship.
Pietro’s baby must be called Lombardi?
▶︎ The baby’s last name
“If we are not married before the birth, I think the child will be called Lombardi,” Pietro suspects. But that hasn’t been discussed yetbut only “a gut feeling.” He believes that Laura sees it the same way.
“But I’m not thinking about it at the moment. Of course she knows that as a father I always want my child to have my name. It’s such a matter of pride.
“But Lombardi is unique. The child is only allowed to have a double name after a wedding,” advertises the soon-to-be-double-dad for his surname. And after a moment’s thought: “I think it’s important that the child has the same name as the father.”
Laura and he can still think about that, if not for much longer. Because, according to Laura, the little kid should come “early next year”. She recently revealed this in an Instagram story.
