The presentation of the Google Pixel 7a at the annual I/O conference is getting closer every day. Unfortunately, Google’s mid-range smartphone may well be the last of its kind according to information from a well-known leaker.

We’re just days away from Google’s I/O event, where the tech giant is expected to officially unveil the Google Pixel 7a. We already know it well: Google’s new inexpensive smartphone was fully revealed before its presentation in several very instructive leaks. Since then, it has been rumored that the Google Pixel 7a will be available at a much higher price than expected. It is precisely this latest rumor that has led a well-known leaker to claim that the Pixel 7a will be the last.

It’s leaker Yogesh Brar who seems certain that the Pixel 7a will be the last “a” version of Google’s smartphones. On Twitter, Brar claims that the end is near for the series and that Google will now just release the normal Pixel accompanied by the Pro model for its next iterations.

Yet last December, Android Authority said from an anonymous but reliable source that there is a Pixel 8a project. The site was able to obtain the complete roadmap of Google’s smartphones until 2025. Codenamed “akita”, the launch of this more affordable version of Google’s future smartphone would depend on sales of the Pixel 7a.

According to Android Authority sources, instead of ending the “a” series as Yogesh Brar claims, Google may be moving to a semi-annual release schedule. In addition, the search engine could opt for a renaming of the Pixel 7a range. If that name were to change, it would mean that while the “a” series would no longer exist, Google would continue to offer a high-performance mid-range smartphone.

In any case, it is certain that we will soon be able to get our hands on the Google Pixel 7a, because the company teased yesterday on its Indian Twitter account the arrival on May 11 “of the latest phone designed by Google” in e-commerce:
