As expected, Google presented the Pixel Tablet as one of the main novelties of the Google I/O 2023 conference. The product brings specifications and features seen in the Pixel line of smartphones, but with novelties that stand out in the tablet market.

This is the case of its smart home mode, activated every time the user places the product on a base with a speaker. For this, the tablet has a four-pin wireless connector on the back.

With a new Home Panel, any member of the family can gain direct access to features such as light control and other smart items — naturally, voice commands are also available.

Through the redesigned Google Home app, the product supports use with over 80,000 smart home devices. In addition, it is possible to switch between users from the same household in a matter of seconds.

The speaker base has Chromecast built-in, which should increase the practicality of use when sending content such as music and podcasts.

The structure of the tablet follows a slightly different visual identity from the brand’s smartphones. After all, there is only one camera that is “loose” on the back panel, in a cover that has a unique color and a smooth finish.

Pixel Tablet tem processor Tensor G2

The Pixel Tablet’s performance set is led by a Tensor G2 processor, the same one that appears in the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro models, in addition to the recently launched Pixel 7a. There is also the Titan M2 chip, focusing on data storage and sharing security.

With this, the tablet receives the various implementations of artificial intelligence from Google platforms, such as improving the quality of video calls, including automatic framing. In addition, captured photos can also be edited more freely.

The tablet will be sold with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and options with 128 or 256 GB of internal storage with UFS 3.1 technology.

The Pixel Tablet’s LCD screen has dimensions of 10.95 inches, a size similar to iPad/iPad Pro models, in addition to the Galaxy Tab S8. The panel features a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio, maximum brightness of 500 nits and support for pens with the USI 2.0 standard.

Google promises “always full battery” based on

Its battery has a capacity of 27 Wh, which represents a continuous use time close to 12 hours, according to what Google pointed out. Recharging this tank happens wirelessly, through the base that comes with the product in the box — so the product is charging while serving as a smart home center.

In the upper section, the fingerprint sensor promises to provide direct and instant access to various applications, without the need to remove the product from its base.

The two cameras present on the tablet are identical, both on the back and on the front. Both optical sets have 8 MP sensors, f/2.0 aperture and 84º viewing angles, for making video calls in HD resolution.

Google also reported that the tablet features a quadruple set of internal speakers, in addition to three microphones that promise to improve the quality of the captured audio. There is also full support for Google Assistant services, with voice commands to obtain quick information or other controls for items connected to the wireless network.

In this sense, the Pixel tablet supports Wi-Fi 6E compatible with 2×2 MIMO and dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), as well as Bluetooth 5.2 and an ultra-wideband chip for accurate distance measurement.

The tablet’s operating system is Android 13, with an interface adapted for devices with a larger screen – the brand mentioned that more than 50 of its own applications received changes of the type. Google also highlighted the software’s ability to integrate with other devices, where it is possible to share files almost instantly.

price and availability

The Pixel Tablet will be sold in three color options: Porcelain, Hazel and Rose (beige, gray and salmon, respectively). Its official price is US$ 499 (about R$ 2,472 in direct conversion). It is already in the pre-sales phase, and the charging base with speaker is included in the package.
