Mexico City- In the midst of the controversy over the alleged plagiarism of Minister Yasmín Esquivel’s thesis, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador pointed out in an ironic tone that hopefully the country’s problems were due to plagiarism, which he described as a form of corruption and dishonesty.

“Yes (it is corruption) it is also dishonesty, but what I am going to do is that the one who accuses of plagiarism or those who accuse of plagiarism are involved in corruption or endorsed corruption or live off corruption,” he said in a morning conference.

“In general, those who harass do not have a moral authority say ‘plagiarism’ and hopefully Mexico’s problems were due to plagiarism, Mexico’s problems are due to theft and all those who say plagiarism or remain silent before the eyes, have remained silent before theft or corruption”.

He reiterated that the UNAM will be the corresponding instance to determine the existence or not of plagiarism.

However, he charged that the case could be treated as “politicking.”

“Let it be resolved, what strikes me is that when there is going to be an election, these issues come up, I suffered from a process of impeachment, every time there is an injustice, I don’t like it that way because it is politicking,” commented.
