Police: 15-year-old worker is seriously injured after exchange of fire with a client

DENVER, Colorado – Commerce City Police (CCPD) continue to investigate a shooting that occurred between a customer and a 15-year-old employee at a Mexican restaurant, leaving the employee with serious injuries.

The shooting occurred on Thursday, August 17, 2023, just after 4 pm near Highway 85 and 72nd Street in Santiago’s.

Police agents responded to a report of an active attacker and upon arrival at the scene they found a 15-year-old boy, who worked in the establishment, presenting a gunshot wound.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the teen and a client had been in an argument that escalated into violence when the two engaged in an exchange of fire.

After the shooting, the client got into the vehicle he had arrived in, which was being driven by a woman. Although they initially drove away from the location, the driver stopped the vehicle shortly thereafter and made a 911 call. At this point, the customer got out of the vehicle and ran away. Apart from the woman, the police reported that there were two children in the car. Fortunately, none of them were injured or involved in the shooting.

Although detectives know the identity of the client, so far he has not been located. Police are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident to determine if charges should be brought against either of the two involved.
