A man fell off a railway bridge in Essen. The Bochum police have been called in to clarify the events.

After a 32-year-old man fell from a railway bridge in Essen-Frohnhausen early on Tuesday morning (January 24), the public prosecutor’s office and the police in Bochum are investigating. The man fell onto the tracks and was seriously injured, according to the Bochum police, who were called in to clarify the events.

The Essen police had previously been alerted at around 3.40 a.m. that a man wanted to commit suicide. The officers met the man armed with a knife at the scene. The 32-year-old is said to have climbed over the parapet and crashed.

Bochum police have taken over investigations

The Bochum police said that according to initial findings, the man should have threatened the officers with the knife. The police officers in turn are said to have used a so-called taser, a distance electric shocker.

To clarify the circumstances and processes, the police headquarters in Bochum took over the investigation. A police spokesman said, among other things, the injured party should hear officials and neutral witnesses. The taser was secured. (dpa)
