Police: Officer runs over armed suspect who threatened to shoot drivers in Long Island with patrol car

NEW YORK — A police officer launched his patrol car into a woman armed with a semi-automatic pistol who was allegedly threatening to shoot several drivers on a Long Island street. Inside the vehicles there were even children.

According to the information, the event occurred on Tuesday afternoon, at about 2:20 pm, at the intersection of the avenues bellmore and jerusalem in the town of North Bellmore, where the 33-year-old suspect managed to fire multiple shots into the air while refusing to put the gun down, according to Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.

The entire event was recorded on a cell phone video that shows the shocking images of when the woman points the gun and the officer runs over her to stop her actions. The woman fell on the pavement, which allowed several uniformed officers to arrest her.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for minor injuries and is in custody. For her part, the officer who struck her, who was described as a hero, received treatment for emotional trauma.

The case remains under investigation.
