After an anonymous bomb threat, part of downtown Dorsten was cordoned off on Thursday. Police search Volksbank building.

A bank branch in Dorsten was cleared on Thursday morning because of a bomb threat. At 9.20 a.m., the police were alerted by employees of the Volksbank am Südwall. An anonymous caller had previously threatened the bank with a bomb over the phone.

“We take every threat seriously,” said a police spokeswoman when asked. Sniffer dogs were also used to search the building, she said.

Bomb threat in Dorsten: Police cleared several neighboring buildings

“The search of the building brought no result,” the police announced late at noon. Explosives were not discovered. For security reasons, several neighboring residential and commercial buildings in downtown Dorsten had also been cleared, it said. The operation ended at 1:45 p.m. and the road and building were cleared.

A senior citizens’ center near the site had also decided to take a precautionary measure: Some of the residents had been accommodated in another part of the building that was safer in the event of a detonation, it said.






The police have initiated criminal proceedings against unknown persons. The investigations continue.
