Louisville police released video footage captured on camera Tuesday by police officers who responded to a shooting at a bank the day before, showing them being greeted with gunfire by the assailant who killed five people.

Two patrol officers who responded to the shooting were injured, one of them in the head.

Paul Humphrey, deputy chief of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department, showed the footage to reporters during a news conference.

In a still image taken from video captured by surveillance cameras, the assailant could be seen holding a gun inside the building, surrounded by broken glass. Police said he moved into position to ambush the officers when they arrived.

Craig Greenberg, the mayor of Louisville, said it was crucial to publicize the shots because “transparency is important, and even more so in a time of crisis.”
