Positivo Servers & Solutions, a branch of the Brazilian company dedicated to servers and IT infrastructure, announced that it will start manufacturing in Brazil the recently introduced servers of the X13 family of Supermicro, one of the main suppliers of servers in the world. The machines will be manufactured locally and draw attention because they already use the new 4th generation Intel Xeon processor family, and can be configured with up to 256 cores and still work without RAM in versions with Max Series CPUs.

The release integrates Supermicro’s line of high-density BigTwin servers, with two units of thickness (2U), specifically serving the SuperServer SYS-221BT-HNTR model. The highlight is the presence of the 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, codenamed Sapphire Rapids, which in addition to bringing new cores with 15% more performance and a 70 W consumption reduction per CPU compared to the 3rd generation, incorporate accelerators dedicated to boosting tasks such as Artificial Intelligence and access to storage.

In addition to conventional CPUs, Max Series solutions are offered, equipped with up to 64 GB of integrated HBM2E memory. These models bring greater flexibility by allowing the additional memory to act as extra high-speed cache for the processor, as an accelerator for main system memory, or even as system memory itself, eliminating the need to purchase RAM and reducing costs. .

Each of the servers has 4 independent computing nodes, configurable with up to 2 CPUs each for a total of 8 processors, leading the system to offer high density by bringing up to 256 cores and 512 threads in a 2U machine. Communication between them is ensured by an interface that reaches 400 Gbps in each node, while power is supplied by a 3,000 W source with redundancy, 1U thickness and 80 Plus Titanium certification, with over 96% energy efficiency.

Despite the high power, the SuperServer SYS-221BT-HNTR would have an optimized chassis to operate with controlled temperatures even in environments that reach 35 ℃, and there is the possibility of acquiring it with liquid cooling for greater security, especially in the most robust configurations. According to Positivo Servers & Solutions, with the improvements and resources offered, the total cost of ownership (TCO, the total expenses incurred during the life of the server) would be reduced by 52% to 66% depending on usage.

Local manufacturing at the Positivo unit in Manaus, Amazonas also helps in this respect. As is customary for this type of product, sales prices were not disclosed, and it is necessary to make a budget. That said, the release notice mentions that the new server is positioned as an intermediate solution, whose values usually exceed US$ 25 thousand (~R$ 125 thousand).
