The Prime Minister, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, chaired, yesterday, Thursday January 19, 2023, the closing ceremony of the work of the Government-Walis meeting, held at the Palais des nations in Algiers under the theme “Local development: evaluation and perspectives”.

In a speech delivered during the closing session of this fifth meeting in three years, the Prime Minister, Aïmene Benabderrahmane, mentioned Algeria’s accession to the BRICS. To this end, the Prime Minister said that “our country was about to join the BRICS group”.

Moreover, during the periodic interview granted to representatives of the national media on December 22, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced that “Algeria’s accession to the BRICS would crown the year 2023”. . Noting that “China, Russia and South Africa had welcomed the candidacy of Algeria”. And that “work was continuing to make it a reality before the end of the current year”.

Government-Walis meeting: what the Prime Minister said

During her speech, Aïmene Benabderrahmane affirmed that “the interventions of the ministers and the walis make it possible to note the achievement of certain positive results as regards the correction of the shortcomings recorded concerning the satisfaction of the essential needs of the citizens, like the taking into charge of the inhabitants of shadow areas”.

However, the Prime Minister stressed “the need to effectively intensify efforts, because despite the many reforms initiated, particularly those that contribute to the revival of overall economic dynamism at the economic level throughout the country, the results obtained have not ‘have not yet reached the required level’. Noting that this occurs “due to reluctance and indecision in the initiative, especially at the local level”.

In addition, Aïmene Benabderrahmane highlighted “the importance of uniting around an integrated and coherent vision to adapt to the data resulting from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while adapting the agenda of development programs to their requirements.

In addition, the Prime Minister also referred to the new challenges relating to food security and water security as well as energy security, presenting, in this regard, the outline of a short-term roadmap to meet these challenges. .
