Prince Harry will attend the coronation of his father, King Charles III, Buckingham said on Thursday. His wife Meghan will remain in California where the couple resides.

Prince Harry has finally given his answer. He will be present at the coronation of his father, King Charles III, on May 6, but alone. Meghan Markle will stay with their two young children, Archie and Lilibet, in California.

The coronation of King Charles also coincides with the birthday of their son Archie, who will celebrate his 4th birthday that day.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” Bunckingham said in a statement. , ending weeks of speculation.

The couple had confirmed in early March that they had received an invitation, but without indicating whether they intended to attend or not.

Halftone reconciliation

Harry and Meghan have made only rare appearances in the UK since leaving for the US in 2020. They did, however, attend a mass during the jubilee of the queen last June, and they were also there for the funeral of the sovereign, in September. Images of the couple, in the company of William and Kate had then raised hopes of reconciliation.

It will therefore only be a half-hearted reconciliation for Harry and his family. Their relations have been particularly strained since the broadcast of the documentary Harry & Meghan on Netflix, and the release of Harry’s memoir.

Harry and his wife Meghan have been very critical of the royal family for their treatment, and accused it of dumping the Duchess on the tabloids.
