The bad news has not stopped pouring in at Ubisoft. Yesterday we told you about the strike call launched by the Solidaires Informatique union at Ubisoft Paris and the remarks made by CEO Yves Guillemot have something to do with it. The context ? One of a structural and economic crisis within Ubisoft that caused the company to push back Skull & Bones and cancel three games, and Project Q just might be one of them.

Overwatch with Ubisoft sauce, is it definitely over?

These are the Insider Gaming reporters who conducted their own little investigation regarding Project Q. This project largely managed by Ubisoft Bordeaux was inspired by Overwatch and Knockout City according to the first descriptions and extracts leaked last year. Ubisoft had formalized the project in April 2022 and it was to be a very colorful third-person shooter with various weapons and the “Showdown” mode – inspired by the battle royale – was to be one of the major modes of the game.

Nevertheless, the development of the game took a major, unexpected and decisive turn last week. Indeed, a new series of playtests was planned for the first half of this year, but sad news has been announced on the Discord dedicated to Project Q and playtests. The developers announced that the project was no longer in development on the #announcements channel on Discord:

“Hey @everyone

We hope you are all well and safe. We want to start by saying how great this group has been from the start. We have shared so many good times and we cherish the relationships we have built with all of you. We have lived together so many extraordinary moments that will remain etched in our memory.

The first closed test was a big milestone for us because of all the hard work the team put in, your incredible support, and your wonderful welcome! We loved the incredible energy that reigned on this discord, it was our fuel for the project. Your feedback has been a real gift and allowed us to grow as developers to do our best for you, our players.

All these warm moments make this announcement more difficult to make: unfortunately, we have to cancel our next closed tests, because the development of the Q project is no longer continuing. This also means that we are going to have to shut down this Discord server.

We don’t have any further information to share at this time, but we want to thank you all for your passion and love for Project Q. All of your messages and support have meant a lot to us and been a major boost for our teams from the start.

We will be shutting down this discord server in the next few days. But until then, share your most memorable memories and moments with us and we’ll be happy to pass the messages on to the team. It was an extraordinary adventure for us, and we will keep an incredible memory of it. We wish you the best for the future.

Warmest regards, The Project Q Dev Team”

Ubisoft has not spoken to the media so far and we will therefore have to wait for their reaction and any possible confirmation. The message published by the developers on Discord is nevertheless intended to be more explicit and given the terms used, we can perceive the disappointment of the developers to have to cut short this project which had potential.
