Mexico orders trial against alleged perpetrator of homicide of surfers

TIJUANA.- The Court of Mexico ruled this Wednesday that the main suspect in the brutal crime of two Australian surfers and one American in the state of Baja California (northwest) be prosecuted for “disappearance” of people, according to the prosecutor’s office.

After an exhaustive hearing held in the town of Ensenada, where the bodies were discovered last Friday, the prosecutor’s office announced its decision to file charges against Jesús Gerardo “N”, known as “El Kekas”, for the murder of the Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, as well as his American friend Jack Carter.

The arrest of the suspect occurred a few hours after the tragic event, when the surfers disappeared on April 27 while camping in a secluded area of Santo Tomás, a coastal enclave belonging to Ensenada.

Authorities indicated that they continue to gather evidence to implicate two other people allegedly involved, currently detained for possession of methamphetamines.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the motive behind this atrocious crime was the theft of the surfers’ van, who were apparently surprised by the criminals while camping and received fatal shots in the head.

Jesús Gerardo “N” will face charges for “disappearance committed by private individuals” and, in relation to the homicide, the prosecutor’s office will also present the corresponding criminal charges, as detailed by the institution in an official statement.

The bodies of the Robinson brothers and their American friend were discovered in a well approximately 15 meters deep.

On Tuesday, the Ensenada forensic medical service delivered the bodies to a funeral home, which will be responsible for their transfer to the United States, where the victims’ families are waiting.
