The government has announced an investment of 2 billion euros by 2027 to develop cycling in France. A welcome help for many municipalities, which are already investing in the development of this means of transport. Report in Saint-Omer, in Pas-de-Calais.

Encourage cycling by developing cycle paths, with 100,000 km of lanes for cyclists, by 2030. In Saint-Omer, in the Pas-de-Calais, the objective announced by the government is hitting the target with two-wheeler drivers. Saint-Omer, 15,000 inhabitants, has already taken the lead in making life easier for cyclists. Here, bicycles can use all the streets of the historic center in both directions, and park in secure car parks.

Extension of aid for the purchase of a bicycle

For cars, the speed is limited to 30km/h. But these facilities are very expensive. For example, the town hall had to appeal to European funds to build a new track dedicated to two-wheelers. According to Christophe Moulin, deputy mayor of Saint-Omer, in charge of ecology and transition, the 2 billion euros of investment announced by the State could make it possible to build new sections. The government has also announced the extension of aid for the purchase of a bicycle until 2027. They will now be open to second-hand bicycles, resold by professionals.
