The PS5 shortage is well and truly over, as evidenced by this record sales figure for the period.
A few weeks ago, Sony informed Asia, and then the whole world, that the shortage of components no longer affected the construction of PS5. More and more of these are therefore found on the stalls of physical and online merchants. At least that’s what the firm promised at the start of the year via a new official advertising spot accompanying the good news.
According to the media GamesIndustry.biz, it seems that Sony has indeed delivered on its promises as PS5 sales have tripled year over year. In January 2023, the firm recorded a 202% growth in console sales compared to the previous year. We also learned recently that they had just reached 30 million copies sold since its release.
Across European markets in January, PS5 sales are up 202% compared with the year before (when there were big stock shortages). PS5 was the No.1 console last month, Switch falls to No.2 (sales down 11% compared with Jan 2022), while Xbox Series S and X are No.3 (sales down 32%)

A rebirth for PlayStation
This situation, Sony hopes that it materializes for two years already. If the shortage would end up fading over time, no one would have imagined that such a resurgence in popularity could exist.
