Puerto Rican woman accused of trafficking cocaine through Bradley airport in Connecticut

A Puerto Rican woman has been indicted for smuggling 12 kilograms of cocaine into Connecticut through Bradley Airport, the Connecticut United States Attorney’s Office announced.

Karina Cintron Santiago, 24, of San Juan, Puerto Rico was indicted by a grand jury for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, authorities said.

According to court documents, a search of Cintron Santiago’s bag of luggage was made on June 4 before boarding a JetBlue flight from San Juan Airport bound for Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, the search yielded approximately 12 kg of cocaine.

When Cintrón Santiago arrived in Connecticut and discovered her bag was missing from the luggage strap, she reported it missing, documents say. Days later, undercover investigators said they posed as JetBlue personnel and told Cintron Santiago that his bag had been located and would be arriving at Bradley Airport.

On June 8 when Cintron Santiago went to pick up her suitcase at the airport, she was arrested, authorities said.

Cintron Santiago, had been in custody since her arrest and pleaded not guilty before a federal judge in Hartford. She was released on a $75,000 bond.

If found guilty, the woman faces up to 20 years in prison.
