The Quintana Roo government announced new reforms to the State Mobility Law, so that the Mobility Institute can immediately withdraw taxi concessions from all those operators who are involved in acts of violence against other platform or private service drivers.

The measure follows the repeated acts of violence carried out by numerous taxi drivers from Cancun and Playa del Carmen against Uber operators and private carriers, and where national and international tourists have also been affected.

Cristina Torres Gómez, Secretary of Government, explained that the idea is that Imoveqroo should no longer require a ruling from an administrative or judicial authority to be able to withdraw a concession immediately, as currently established in article 122 of the aforementioned law.

According to the official, the proposal would be entered in about two weeks, and once in Congress, they hope that the deputies do the same so that they begin to act against what he called “a group of taxi drivers that protects other interests ”.

Regarding the judicial process faced by the two taxi drivers recently arrested on Yaxchilán Avenue in Cancun, Cristina Torres pointed out that they are still detained and their hearing to link the process will take place on August 4. Both taxi drivers violently attacked a private tourist transport vehicle, mistaking it for an Uber, an action that has become commonplace in this tourist destination.

as revealed REPORTUR.mxcopying the aggressive conduct of the taxi drivers of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the taxi drivers of the union Adolfo López Mateos of Cozumel are also adopting attitudes of violence and confrontation, this time against companies legally authorized to offer the tourist transport service (Cozumel : intimidating taxi drivers like those in Cancun and Playa del Carmen).
