After rumors that Qualcomm is already preparing the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the month of October, preliminary information indicated that a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 might not be launched in the middle of the year, breaking a classic cycle of previous generations to offer a little more performance on cell phones in the second half. But a new rumor now indicates that the faster version of the 8 Gen 2 may, in fact, be on the way. At least in China.

A few months ago, reports circulated that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy (Qualcomm’s chip with minor changes for the Galaxy S23 line) would actually be the 8 Plus Gen 2. Now, a leak indicates that the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro will be launched with the “8 Gen 2 for Galaxy” chip in China, only renamed to “Snapdragon 8 Plus Second Generation” or just “8 Plus Gen 2”.

The CPU frequency is said to reach up to 3.36GHz, with a maximum GPU frequency of 719MHz. These are the same speeds found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which corroborates the indications that the chip would be the 8 Plus Gen 2 after all.

We do not know if Qualcomm plans to launch the slightly more powerful processor in the middle of the year for all partner manufacturers as Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 or if the chip will remain exclusive to Samsung in the global market, but can be found in Chinese models with different nomenclature.

The upcoming OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is expected as the brand’s gaming smartphone offering up to 16GB of high-speed LPDDR5X RAM and the latest UFS 4.0 storage.

Device-related news and more details about Qualcomm’s future chip should emerge in the coming days, so stay tuned to Canaltech and our social media so you don’t miss any news!
