A woman from Saxony-Anhalt has been sentenced to a suspended youth sentence for her membership in the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia.

The Higher Regional Court of Naumburg imposed a sentence of two years, as announced on Monday. Further details were not published because the trial was not public due to the young age of the convicts at the time.

According to the indictment, she radicalized herself as a student at high school in Germany and traveled to IS in Syria as a teenager. There she married an IS fighter and had three children with him. In 2019 she was arrested by Kurdish militias and brought back to Germany in March 2022 by officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office. (AFP)
