Invest in our planet – this is the motto of this year’s Earth Day on April 22nd. Randstad has set itself the goal of halving emissions by 2030 and being carbon neutral by 2050. To this end, Randstad is investing, among other things, in the e-mobility of its entire vehicle fleet, thereby reaffirming its commitment to sustainability.

13,580 vehicles are currently in use at Randstad worldwide, 11.8% are already powered by renewable energies. The Dutch parent company has already converted its 3,830 company vehicles. The Randstad Group Germany will follow by 2030 and convert its fleet of currently 1,800 cars completely to electric drives. This is a measure with which Randstad wants to achieve “Net Zero” by 2050 – i.e. a stricter version of climate neutrality that focuses more on CO2 reduction.

“Road to Net Zero”: Randstad will gradually implement e-mobility by 2030

“Electromobility is a central part of our sustainability strategy. As a climate protection measure, it is one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, which we use as a guide,” explains Cornelia Kriegisch, who is responsible for the transition to e-mobility as a project manager at the Randstad Group in Germany coordinated. With the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN set the agenda for sustainability. Randstad aligns its sustainability strategy with the following priorities: inclusive and fair education, gender equality, decent work and sustainable economic growth, less inequality between countries and measures to protect the climate.

In order to also reduce CO2 consumption across the vehicle fleet, the company relies on a phased model. E-models have been available in the fleet since 2023, the number of combustion engines will be successively reduced from 2024, only cars with an emission limit of 140g CO2 per kilometer will be permitted. From 2026, only electric cars will be available. “Our mobility concept gives our employees tax benefits and flexibility,” explains Cornelia Kriegisch. Because charging works with a stationary charging station from home: Simply charge using the wall box and choose between private and professional use of the e-car. Charging on the go works with a charging card for public charging stations.

Holistic commitment to sustainability

“Our measures on the way to climate neutrality serve one major goal: better resource efficiency. That’s why we are pursuing a holistic strategy that ranges from e-cars to powering our buildings with green electricity. New locations are selected because of their central location and accessibility . And with our home office offer, we are also reducing travel distances.” In addition to the conversion of the vehicle fleet, Randstad also relies on e-bikes. 340 are currently used by employees, 450 more will be added. As an alternative to a company car, employees have the option of using a Bahncard 100.

“Our mobility concept is an important investment in our future as a company. Because sustainability has a major impact on the perception and reputation of employers,” says Cornelia Kriegisch. The Randstad Arbeitsbarometer 2023 study makes this clear: 42% of employees in Germany would not accept a job if the company did not take a proactive approach to protecting the environment.
