Duisburg.
The successful chain “Haus des Döners” has opened a branch in Duisburg. At the start there was a doner kebab for a cent – you had to queue for hours for that.

A doner kebab for a cent – the tried-and-tested opening ritual of the “Haus des Döners” doner kebab chain is also popular in Duisburg: at the opening of the new branch on August-Bebel-Platz in Marxloh on Wednesday, it was mainly children and young people who stood behind the Hanzade restaurant Snake – and that before owner Gülbahar Demirbas had unlocked the door to his snack bar.

Hira (13) and Nemet (14) came straight after school and after four hours standing with their feet in their stomachs they were finally able to bite into their doner kebabs. Tired but happy!

The news of the opening quickly made the rounds on Instagram and Tiktok. In order to be able to cope with the rush, employees had to regulate pedestrian traffic at the traffic lights to August-Bebel-Platz. Continue on green? none. Even if it looked like a test of patience: those waiting were in a good mood, whiled away the time taking selfies and looking forward to the bargain.

Around 1,500 doner kebabs were sold on the opening day. It shouldn’t stop with this one “kebab shop” in Duisburg. Gülbahar Demirbas’ cousin is planning to open another branch on Friedrich-Wilhelm-Strasse.
