RECORD! Eight Cubans to the MLB All-Star Game

Yandy Díaz and Randy Arozarena, both of the Tampa Bay Rays, will start at first base and left field, respectively, for the American League team, while Houston Astros outfielders Yordán Alvarez, Adolis García , of the Texas Rangers, and Luis Robert, of the Chicago White Sox, will accompany them as reserves, as well as Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Yennier Cano.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Miami Marlins designated hitter Jorge Soler will also join those six from the American team as reserves.

For Alvarez and García it will be their second presence in a stellar mid-season classic, while the other six will be debutants in these games.

This will be the first time in history that eight representatives from the Greater Antilles attend an All-Star Game, thus surpassing the previous record of six, which dates back to 1968, when Tony Oliva, also a member of the Hall of Famers Tany Perez, Leo Cárdenas, Luis Tiant, Joe Azcue and Bert Campaneris.

Likewise, Arozarena ensured his participation in the Home Run Derby, to be held on Monday the 10th, where he will compete against local Dominican idol Julio Rodríguez (Seattle Mariners), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays), Pete Alonso ( New York Mets) and Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers), while three others remain to be confirmed, including Juan Soto (San Diego Padres), champion of the event in 2022.

These are the complete rosters of the teams for the All-Star Game.
