Pictures, photographs, sculptures, ceramics – more than 1000 artists throughout Brandenburg opened their studios at the weekend. The professional association of visual artists reported a record participation of artists after the restrictions during the Corona crisis. In some workshops, visitors could also get creative themselves.

The artists’ association spoke of a great deal of visitor interest at the open studio days. He said that the start on Saturday didn’t stop people from visiting the artists, despite the cool and sometimes rainy weather. According to the association, the response was very good in the first few hours. Many of the individual organizers were expecting a record number of visitors this year.

“There are a surprising number of people there”

Especially after the restrictions of the corona pandemic, the freelance artists had hoped for many curious visitors. Willi Selmer from the Kunsthaus in Laasow in southern Brandenburg said that because of the conditions imposed in the Corona crisis, studios were also less well attended, and he was not able to carry out art projects. Selmer, who comes from Lower Bavaria, showed sculptures made of wood and metal on Sunday, among other things, his artist partner Marion Goyn pictures made of oil and acrylic.

The children’s book illustrator Stefanie Jeschke from Treuenbrietzen (Potsdam-Mittelmark) said according to the association’s announcement: “There are a surprising number of people there.” According to her assessment, more visitors would come this time after the Corona break. During the days of the open studios, bike and bus tours as well as city tours also led to the artists’ rooms. (dpa)
