Last week we talked about how the leading Chinese smartphone brands had been considering the idea of launching devices with a staggering amount of 24GB RAMand the Red Magic 8S Pro it has become the first phone to have this impressive memory capacity.
At first glance, it can be difficult to understand what benefits a user with 24 GB of RAM can offer compared to a similar device equipped with 12GB RAM. However, From a marketing standpoint, this move is not unusual and has become quite common.
The Red Magic 8S Pro comes with the powerful SoC Snapdragon 8+ Gen2which features a configuration similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen2, which was previously exclusive to the Galaxy S23 from Samsung. Its CPU consists of eight cores, with a high-performance core capable of reaching up to 3.36 GHz, which is an increase of 0.16 GHz compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen2. The GPU is an Adreno 740which runs at a frequency of 719 MHz (680 MHz on the Snapdragon 8 Gen2).
While this slight boost in clock rates may not make much of a difference to the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC, the Red Magic 8S Pro offers other standout features. It has a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 2,480 x 1,116 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 20:9 screen format. The phone is available in a base version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage capacity, as well as versions with 12 GB-16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage capacity, and 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage capacity.
As for its camera system, on the back we find a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP wide-angle lens and a 2 MP macro camera. On the front, the device features a 16 MP selfie camera. In addition, the Red Magic 8S Pro includes a 6,000 mAh battery, a fingerprint reader integrated into the screen, an elegant aluminum chassis with a glass finish and runs Android 13 operating system with the Redmagic OS 8 customization layer.
Price-wise, the base version of the phone is available for around $550, while the top-of-the-line model with 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage capacity is priced at about a thousand dollars.
