Relatives of Guatemalan man stabbed in Woodbridge deny allegations of harassment

The family of Jesser Edwardo Marroquín Cordón, the 33-year-old man who was stabbed to death in Woodbridge, denied the allegations of harassment against him.

Marroquín lost her life on Saturday in the middle of a dispute when she went to the house of her ex-partner at 800 Fulton Place who reported that the deceased was allegedly harassing her. The woman, who preferred not to be identified, said the man allegedly made “a jealous scene” at her.

However, Marroquín’s family does not believe that version of events and insists that he was a good couple, a good father of two minors and a beloved son.

“My brother was not a stalker, he had already ended their relationship. The one who was harassed was my brother,” said Sofía Marroquín.

Jesser Edwardo Marroquín Cordón, 33, was stabbed to death on Friday after going to his ex-partner’s house in Woodbridge to “make a claim scene,” according to the woman. Another man intervened in the brawl and now faces murder charges, according to police.

“That’s a lie because he came to the house of (the woman) beaten because she attacked him,” said Emma Graciela Cordón, the victim’s mother.

However, those close to Marroquín wonder why his ex-girlfriend did not report the alleged harassment.

“Why not intervene so they don’t take my son’s life? Why not call the police if he was making a scandal so that they would take him into custody?” the mother questioned.

According to the ex-partner’s account, the incident occurred while she shared with her co-workers in the patio of her house. Marroquín allegedly came to claim her, took her by the arm and allegedly pushed a pregnant woman.

At that moment, apparently 24-year-old Heriberto Valdez stood up and started a fight between the two in self-defense.

“He (Marroquín) was holding him by the neck. It was not known at what moment, but when we realized there was already blood. Everything was to defend himself and unfortunately someone died. If it had not been one, it would have been another because he was suffocating him, ” explained the woman in a previous interview.

While Valdez remains in custody on charges of murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony, according to authorities, Marroquín’s family is adamant about one thing.

“Let justice be done and continue investigating. If there really are more people involved, let them pay for the death of my son,” Cordón concluded.
