For more than four decades, the world’s most renowned pharmaceutical companies have worked to find a cure for Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and, despite their efforts, so far they have not succeeded.

However, a religious association ensures that the answer was always in Solomon’s well.

Recently, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God began a tour throughout Mexico to offer his followers the so-called “Water of the Greatest Miracles”, which, he assures, is capable of curing any terminal illness and even putting an end to the HIV.

“Every Sunday people are given a drop of water brought from the solomon’s well in Jerusalem. Being a place that is in the Holy Land, the water is blessed. Many people, through this water, have been cured of some illness or have received several miracles”, says one of the pastors of this religious association.

He affirms that one blessed drop is more than enough to “consecrate” even a jug of water, but for practical reasons, believers are asked for a bottle of water so that they can manage their consumption at home.

The meetings to offer this “miraculous water” are held every Sunday in the central church, which is in Mexico City, but through this tour it has been taken to different states and one of them was Quintana Roo.

Testimony on a canvas

During its promotional campaign for the free delivery of the “Water of the Greatest Miracles”, held on Sunday, February 5 in cancunone of the publicity strategies was a canvas on which was a photo of a woman, María Gutiérrez, and her testimony of how she was cured of HIV.

“I persevered in the meetings and, drinking the water with faith, I determined that my health would be restored. After further analysis, my results came back negative. I am currently living healthy. God can do miracles that are impossible for us to do,” she reads.

They threaten health

But the miraculous water of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and the controversy that it has generated, after affirming that it can cure an incurable disease, have provoked criticism from civil associations that are dedicated to providing care and accompaniment to HIV-positive patients.

Edgar Mora UC, representative of the association Egalitarian Social Circlesays that the way in which this information is being disseminated is a crime in the state of Quintana Rooprovided for in article 152 of the Penal Code.

He affirms that patients who have a treatment based on antiretroviral drugs, which are scientifically proven to control HIVthey cannot suspend them, because it would be fatal to their health.

For this reason, they have requested the intervention of the Directorate of Religious Affairs and of the General Secretary of the City Hall of Benito Juarez to intervene in the matter and stop the spread of fraudulent and misleading information for people living with HIV in the town.

For the moment, the advertising banner that had been placed at the entrance of the religious association, located on Avenida Tulum, in superblock 15A, has already been removed.

A violation of human rights

Armando Mendoza Rubio, second general visitor of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Quintana Roopoints out that to date they have not received any complaints against the promotion of “miraculous water”.

And despite the fact that they are only empowered to investigate irregular acts that are committed by public servants at the municipal or state level, they are in the best disposition to provide advice for follow-up in the corresponding instance.

“Anyone who is aware of an irregular situation can contact us and we will give them care or follow-up, even if it is not our responsibility,” he says.

Before, a complaint must be filed with the State Attorney General’s Office against whoever is recommending this “miraculous water”, because if it is not supported as a doctor, it could be considered usurpation of functions.

In addition, one must look at the Health Secretary and the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), since it is a case in which a liquid is being offered that does not have a health record.

What does article 152 of the Penal Code of Quintana Roo say?

“The crime of fraud is committed by deceiving someone or taking advantage of the error in which he finds himself, obtains something from another or reaches an undue profit for himself or for another. A fine of six months to three years in prison and a fine of twenty-five to two hundred days will be applied to the person who commits the crime of fraud whose amount does not exceed one thousand times the daily value of the current Measurement and Update Unit. If it exceeds said amount, the sanction will be three to twelve years in prison and a fine of fifty to four hundred days.
