Missed work will be made up for in the summer. According to the Spanish sports newspaper ‘as’, one of the Werkself’s candidates is Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica Lisbon. The Werkself around coach Xabi Alonso are showing interest in the 27-year-old Spaniard.

The ‘kicker’ also reports that Grimaldo was even an issue at Bayer during the past transfer window. However, a clear change veto by Lisbon made any advances useless. In the summer, however, Benfica would have to watch helplessly as the long-time top performer leaves the club: Grimaldo is free of charge as his contract expires.

In courting for the 27-year-old, however, Bayer will have to assert itself against a number of well-known competitors. After all, the left-back has been in demand for years. Most recently, Borussia Dortmund was associated with Grimaldo from the Bundesliga.

The Spaniard switched to Benfica from FC Barcelona’s youth team in 2016 and established himself there as a fixture at the back left. He has appeared on the pitch for the Portuguese record champions in 283 competitive games, scoring 24 goals and providing 57 assists.
