Washington DC, EU.- Texas Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw introduced a resolution condemning Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for threatening to interfere in US elections, Fox News reported.

In March, López Obrador threatened to ask Mexicans in the US not to vote for the Republican Party in the face of a proposal for military action by Washington in Mexican territory, promoted by Lindsey Graham and Dan Crenshaw.

“And, starting today, we are going to start an information campaign for Mexicans who live and work in the United States and all Hispanics to inform them of what we are doing in Mexico, and how this initiative by the Republicans, in addition to being irresponsible, is an offense to the people of Mexico, a lack of respect for our independence, our sovereignty,” said the Mexican President during one of his daily conferences.

“And if they don’t change their attitude and think that they are going to use Mexico for their propaganda, electoral, and political purposes, we are going to call for people not to vote for that party.”

The resolution calls for President López Obrador to retract his March 9 remarks and not interfere in any US election. In addition, it requests the Department of State to monitor any activity on the part of the Mexican Government that could be considered interference in an election at the federal or local level.

Finally, it urges the US President, Joe Biden, to denounce, condemn and use the necessary tools to protect the electoral process from any foreign interference.

Crenshaw told Fox News that he called for an immediate vote on the resolution and asked to show a united front in Congress.

“Attempts to intimidate voters or interfere with our democratic process will not be tolerated. The Republican leadership should bring this important resolution to the House immediately for a vote. Every member of Congress should support this resolution to show a united front against the AMLO’s reckless rhetoric and his failure to stop the cartels in his country that are massacring Americans with fentanyl,” he said.

In the document, the legislator points out that foreign interference in the elections of another country is a violation of international law and customs, including the United Nations Declaration on the Principles of International Law relating to Friendly Relations and Cooperation between States in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
