The former governor of the state of New Jersey and candidate for the United States Republican Party primaries, Chris Christie, visited the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, by surprise this Friday, where he also met with the country’s president, Volodimir Zelenski.
From Kiev, Christie has defended the constant support of the United States with Ukraine and has taken the opportunity to value the international support provided by Washington, which, he says, serves to contain the influence of countries like Russia or China, reports the news chain CNN.
In addition, he has criticized former United States President Donald Trump, the main candidate to represent the Republicans in the 2024 elections, for his equidistance regarding the conflict in Eastern Europe and for not clearly specifying whether Ukraine should win the war.
During his tenure as head of the White House, Trump maintained good relations with Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. With the outbreak of the war, he set himself up as a peacemaker in the situation and even went so far as to ensure that he could put an end to tensions with just a phone call to Moscow and kyiv.
Christie confirmed in early June that he was once again running for the Republican Party primary. Already in 2016 he ran to try to stop the Trump phenomenon, which finally not only won the primaries, but also managed to win the Presidency of the United States.
The former governor has his electoral aspirations more than complicated, not only because of Trump’s participation in the primaries, but also because the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has also confirmed that he is running for office and the polls place him in second position, behind the Ex leader.
