The 2023 residency exam will take place on November 19 and 5,400 positions have been put up for competition. The novelty is that those who take the exam must obtain a minimum of 65% of the maximum possible mark to pass, compared to 60%, as it was in past years, according to an Order of the Ministers of Health and Education put up for public debate.

In the Contest methodology it is stated that the decision to increase the minimum passing score from 60% to 65% was taken after discussions with the rectors of the universities of Medicine and Pharmacy in the country.

  • “On September 7, 2023 and on September 18, 2023, video conferences were organized with the rectors of the universities of medicine and pharmacy in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Tg. Mureș and Timisoara. The purpose of this meeting was to establish some organizational issues, as well as to finalize the draft of the Contest Methodology.
  • Following these meetings, it was determined that the choice of a place or position is conditioned by obtaining a minimum passing score of 65% of the maximum score achieved at the national level for the 200 questions for each field. In this regard, the 6 universities of medicine and pharmacy have expressed their written agreement”, the document put up for public debate states.

The residency exam will take place on November 19. Candidates are given 200 grid questions and the time to solve is four hours.

In 2023, the situation of graduates for Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy was as follows:

  • Medicine – 3.6740;
  • Dental Medicine – 1,183;
  • Pharmacy – 893.

Registration for the residency exam is done through the public health directorates of each county and of the municipality of Bucharest or through the ministries with their own health network, according to the following calendar:

  • October 11-24 – submission of registration files, Monday to Thursday, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Competition files can also be sent by post or courier services, during the same period.

Last year, in 2022, 5,800 positions were put up for competition, but more than 600 remained unfilled, although there were more than 10,300 registered candidates.
