Lawrence Mayor Brian A. DePeña confirmed through an official announcement the retirement of Police Chief Roy Vasque.
It came into effect on June 30, but it was not confirmed until Tuesday afternoon.
In a social media post, DePeña took the opportunity to thank Vasque for his service and dedication to the Lawrence community. He also added that he wished the official a prosperous and healthy retirement.
Vasque had been on administrative leave for months due to an internal investigation at his agency.
