Essen-Rüttenscheid.
In 2022, some Rüttenscheid restaurateurs closed their cafés, bars and restaurants for very different reasons. An overview.

One comes, the other goes: While the Rüttenscheid gastronomy scene has grown a lot again this year, at the same time some cafés, bars and restaurants have closed their doors forever. We give an overview of the bars that left the district in 2022.

Kronenstuben

With the Kronenstuben, an entity that has shaped Rüttenscheider Strasse for decades has closed. Achim Kobsch, the landlord of the rustic pub, died in October. According to the Rüttenscheid interest group (IGR), he stood behind the counter until the end, despite health problems. “We are losing a very distinctive personality and a piece of Ruhr area history,” mourned the IGR. It is not yet known what will happen next with the shop. Contrary to initial assumptions, the partner of the deceased landlord will probably not continue to run the pub. The sign at Rüttenscheider Straße 231 has already been taken down.

Mr T Asia

Just like the next tenant Ion Fusion, there was also Asian fusion cuisine at Mr. T Asia on Klarastrasse. The restaurant closed in 2022 and made room for his successor, who moved into the empty premises after just a few weeks. The two owner families are friends.

miss hops

The Miss Hops franchise at Rüttenscheider Straße 201 wanted to impress with a large selection of craft beers from autumn 2021. Apparently that didn’t work out, and the bar closed again about a year later. Now there is a comeback at the address: The scene bar Plan B, which had previously attracted a wide audience there for 15 years under the direction of Ted Terdisch, is returning. The new managing director is Joshua Hollasch.

Cafe Ay’sel

For personal reasons, Güllü Kuşim said goodbye to her Café Ay’sel in May. There was, among other things, Italian coffee and a selection of cakes. She wanted to face new challenges, the young restaurateur told our editorial team. A new tenant was quickly found: House of Çiğköfte moved in.

Schlemmermeyer

It was only in 2018 that the branch of the Munich delicatessen with an attached grill snack bar moved from Kettwiger Strasse in the city center to “Rü”. The end followed on November 30th. It is still unclear who will move into the shop at Rüttenscheider Straße 233.

Colorful

With the departure of the Farbenfroh restaurant, Rüttenscheid lost an address for vegans. There was three-course cuisine without any animal products. For family reasons, the owners Katy Reichelt and Izzettin Tas relocated to Haltern am See. A few months later, the Nesifa restaurant opened on the corner of Paulinenstrasse and Franziskastrasse.

Pistachio

In the Pistachio at 20 Zweigertstraße there were coffee specialities, Syrian sweets and crêpes. Now it is over. The café closed and nothing has happened on the premises since then. However, owner Mahmoud Alsan continues to run his new restaurant Foodlogie.
