Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, the new movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU, for its acronym in English) and that opens the curtain of Phase 5 opens this Thursday, February 16. However, in FayerWayer we could see the tape a little before the rest to bring you this review.

In advance, we want to say that this post has no spoilers. It is a summary from a general perspective of what was seen in the film, what was revealed by Marvel Studios in the trailers and a bit of opinion, so that you can go to the movies motivated and be surprised, or as it happened to us, losing your mind to the wonders of the Quantum Realm and Kang the Conquerorthe new supervillain of the MCU.

A family love movie

If you’re a big fan of the Ant-Man franchise, you know that good humor and family love have always reigned in the plot. Since 2015’s first installment, we’ve seen Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) efforts to redeem himself and spend time with his daughter, as Hope (Evangeline Lilly) goes from hating her father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to siding with him to save his mother Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and all the efforts to get them all together.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania we see for the first time this particular united familyincluding Scott’s daughter, Cassie, played by Kathryn Newton, turned into a troubled teenager who even needs a little help from her loved ones to get out of jail. Nothing serious, but interesting because of his father’s criminal past.

The romance between Scott and Hope is on the rise, they even have getaways to very high places where they arrive in their Ant-Man and The Wasp costumes to enjoy a few beers watching the sunset.

Our Ant-Man seems happy, with a stable family, enjoying the fame of being an Avenger and a writer of heroic anecdotes, spending a lot of time with his daughter, who seems to be very interested in becoming a scientist like her step-grandfather Hank.

Cassie’s ambition for science and her interest in the Quantum Realm leads the teenager to build a quantum satellite that sends signals to the Kingdom, which arouses her grandmother’s concernan expert in the field by living 30 years in that place.

Then, the artifact activates and begins to absorb the family, who end up trapped in the Quantum Realm, or as Janet van Dyne describes it, “a secret universe below ours.”. Here the chaos begins.

Welcome to the Quantum Realm, greeted by Kang

The family lands in the Quantum Realm, where they are greeted by giant monsters, humanoids, intelligent creatures, and more that we won’t detail for the enjoyment of soon-to-be-movie fans. But the best of all is the character of the actor Bill Murray.

In the kingdom, Ant-Man and his daughter they are surprised by Kang the Conqueror, the first time traveler, in the skin of Jonathan Majors. It may sound obvious, your expectation may be this, but there is no doubt: The best thing about Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is Kang. Cold, calculating, intelligent, advanced and extremely strong, Kang ends up being a worthy replacement for the legacy that Thanos left as a villain in the MCU..

Kang the Conqueror

Kang tries to negotiate with Scott, who offers him what he wants most in life: make up for the time lost by the blip and live those years in which he could not see his daughter grow up. Ant-Man ends up accepting.

By the way, at the heart of the matter we saw MODOK, who is actually Yellowjacket, the villain from the first Ant-Man movie, who is actually Darren Cross, played by Corey Stoll. At first we will be shocked by how scary it can seem, but it was kind of sad to see how it ends.

The impending showdown

What Kang asks of Scott is to submerge with his most minuscule form into the depths of the Quantum Realm, looking for some kind of power source that can power the Conqueror’s multiversal ship to escape.

When they finally get what Kang wants, Janet tells Scott not to trust Kang, that he is extremely dangerous and that if he gives him what he wants, he will escape the Quantum Realm. The Conqueror ends up with the power source in his hands, with Ant-Man claiming that they had a deal and a quantum war begins between the heroes and the supervillain..

Here it starts one of the most incredible bare-knuckle fights in memory in the MCU, especially because of how Scott’s face turned out. It’s not that big, but it seems like a lot for Marvel Studios.

Enjoy the ending. It’s intensely quantum.
