The goose riders take their time in the Südpark in Bochum-Höntrop. As the new king after two years, Andreas I. Grimmenstein has the lucky hand.

Rarely have there been so many spectators in the Südpark as there were at this year’s Königsritt, even with a gray sky and cool temperatures. After all, the Höntrop goose riders had to take a two-year Corona break. On the other hand, they approached the traditional equestrian games in a very relaxed manner. Even the competition for the show goose lasted for half an hour this time, the actual riding of the kings then just as long.

Oberschulte Markus Oskamp and his co-moderator Heiner Jung were able to reassure the friendly clubs: “We have never gotten away from here without a new king.” The Sevinghausen goose riders were particularly welcomed by a stately delegation, who this time did not ride their own horses.

After the inspection of the parade, Lothar I. Behm opened the riding on the show goose “Mendoza” as his last official act as king, and then the active riders showed their skills. Two riders from the twin town of El Carpio de Tajo in Spanish Castile were again welcomed as guests.

Partnership with El Carpio de Tajo also documented in the saddle

The moderators on the stage, meanwhile flanked by the city prince couple, the royal couple of the hamster club and the respective adjutants, accompanied the riders’ attacks on the wooden goose, which lost its feathers with difficulty, but kept its neck.

“It looked good,” and “it cracks a lot,” they comment. But that’s exactly how they agreed: “And the neck is getting longer and longer, the neck is getting longer and longer”.

Until Wolfgang Wittkamper was able to assert himself and reaped the cheers on the circuit in Spelbergs Busch.

Change at the goose position in the airy height, “Bertha”, the “King Goose”, came to the turn. And there were still six riders in the “difficult course”, as the high school teacher described it wittily.

The king goose was very stubborn this time

Was it the support of the visitors, was it the family tradition that drove him, in any case after a good 30 minutes in the competition Andreas Grimmenstein finally had the lucky hand and the necessary grip to make “Bertha” headless and thus become the new goose rider king.

His Highness did not take long to ask, Sandra Faust agreed. The adjutant, Stephan Voss, was also ready.

The new king has been a member of the goose riders since 1995 and holds the position of “constable”. He comes from a long-established Höntrop goose rider family, which continues with the child queen Karlotta: she is his daughter.

Before the newly elected Highness Sandra, her grandmother Ida and mother Ute also wore the tiara of the Höntroper Gänsereiter.
