Faced with the explosion in the number of Covid-19 cases in China, several countries are considering reintroducing restrictive measures for travelers from this country.

China is facing an explosion in Covid-19 cases. The Beijing government has decided to largely lift the health restrictions put in place to fight the epidemic in the country, thus ending its “zero-Covid” policy.

In this context, Italy has announced that it will impose compulsory tests on all travelers coming from China, while the United States is considering similar measures.

In France, the Ministry of Health and Prevention is following developments in the situation in China very closely, BFMTV has learned. “He is ready to study all the useful measures that could be implemented as a result, in conjunction with France’s European partners, and within the legal framework that exists today,” explains the ministry.

The worrying situation

The latter also specifies that since August 1st and the adoption of the law putting an end to the exceptional regimes created to fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, “travellers no longer have any formalities to complete before their arrival in France, regardless of the country or area of origin”.

But the situation in China is worrying. The hospital system is under tension while the Omicron variant – more transmissible than the previous ones – is circulating massively in the population. In addition, the Chinese are less immunized because they are much less vaccinated than in European countries.
