– Pointless! Criticizing NATO is a derailment and takes the focus away from what is damning bombing and unimaginable suffering in Ukrainesays city council representative for Rødt in Trondheim, John-Peder Denstad, to Adresseavisen.
Tuesday’s Debate on NRK has brought the debate in the Red party to a boiling point. The party is the only one in the Storting that believes it is wrong to send weapons to Ukraine.
In the NRK studio, central board member Joakim Møllersen stated that Norway should not supply the country with weapons. He also believes that NATO opposes peace negotiations, because the NATO line is to keep the war going.
The party line must change!
Rødt profiles in Trondheim state to Adresseavisen on Wednesday that it is time to change the party line.
– With the increasingly worse attacks against people in Ukraine, and against Ukrainian infrastructure, we also see that the discussions within our party are now moving, says Denstad to TV 2, and he admits that it is now “full fire” around various forums.
He gets support from Roald Arentz, who also sits on the party’s central board. He tells the newspaper that he is becoming increasingly certain that the party must say “yes” to arms exports.
– Castle in the air
The party’s well-known Storting profile, Mímir Kristjánsson, tells TV 2 that he has changed his position on arms support to Ukraine.
– At the beginning I agreed with Rødt’s official role. But the way the war has developed, it appears like a castle in the air.
Rødt’s adopted position is not to engage in arms deliveries.
– Peace in Ukraine is more important than peace in Red, he says to TV 2.
Party leader Bjørnar Moxnes believes the debate in Rødt will continue until the national meeting in April.
– There are a number of different ways to support Ukraine that do not involve sending weapons. Among other things, by sanctioning oligarchs, he tells TV 2.
