The role of communities in conservation

In the search to understand the implications of deforestation in the environment, Danny Carlos Correa from RTVC Noticias visited the community of San Rafael, located in the heart of the Colombian Amazon. From the depths of the Amazon, Benedicto expressed the concern that overwhelms the community for deforestation and how it affects their way of life and their connection with nature.

The communities that inhabit the Amazon are aware of the importance of conserving these vast forests. They recognize that the Amazon region of Colombia represents 40% of the country’s surface and is home to approximately 39 million hectares of forests, the preservation of which is essential for the planet’s climate balance.
