Russia attacks Odessa again, although Ukraine says it has shot down all drones and missiles

Debris from the interceptions damaged the residence of a vocational training center in the city, a residential building and a supermarket, Odessa Governor Oleh Kiper said.

Two supermarket employees were hospitalized, Kiper said.

Kremlin forces have hit the port city hard in recent weeks, attacking facilities for transporting Ukraine’s crucial grain exports and prized Ukrainian monuments.

The new barrage began after Moscow’s decision to break a landmark deal that had allowed grain to continue to flow from Ukraine to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia to help reduce the threat of famine.

After that withdrawal, Russia repeatedly attacked Ukrainian ports such as Odessa and declared large areas of the Black Sea unsafe for the transport of goods.

A Russian military ship fired warning shots on Sunday at a cargo ship in the southwestern Black Sea.

Russia’s defense minister said the ship was heading north toward the Ukrainian Danube port of Izmail. Russian forces fired small automatic weapons to force him to stop, the ministry said on Telegram.

The Ukrainian President’s office reported Monday that at least eight civilians have been killed and 23 wounded in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.
