Russian authorities say they shot down two drones heading to Moscow and accuse Ukraine

The drones were intercepted en route to Moscow and there were no casualties, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said. The Russian Defense Ministry described it as a “terrorist attack.”

One of the drones crashed in the Domodedovo region, south of Moscow, and the other near the highway to Minsk, west of the city, Sobyanin said. Domodedovo airport is one of the busiest in the capital.

It was not clear where the drones had come from, and Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment. Ukraine does not usually confirm or deny such attacks.

On July 30 and August 1, flights were disrupted at Vnukovo airport when several drones crashed in Moscow’s financial district after being electronically intercepted by air defenses, in two separate incidents.

Russian authorities accused Ukraine in May of attempting to attack the Kremlin with two drones in a plot to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.

There have been recent drone strikes against targets in the Russian capital or the Crimean Peninsula.
