For ten years the magazine Forbes Mexico annually releases a list of the 100 most creative Mexicans in the world. In it, great personalities have appeared, to which is now added the illustrator from Saltillo Alex Carrillo.

The author of the coloring book “Faces: A Coloring Book”one of the best sellers of Amazonpositioned himself alongside figures such as filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu and the actor tenoch orchardwho stood out for their work in 2022.

Carrillo did the same when he was chosen for the second time to participate in an international collective exhibition organized by The Walt Disney Family Museumas the only Latin American representative in “The Spirit of the Season”which adds to other achievements through the years.

“It comes as a surprise to me to be on the list. Was unexpected but at the same time great exciting and I am very grateful for the recognition”, the artist expressed to VANGUARDIA, “he feels super father, it is something he had always wanted.

The list was published in the December 2022 and January 2023 edition and also includes the conductor Ivan Lopez Reynosothe painter from Querétaro Raul Camposthe publicist Joseph Becker, the producer Manolo Caro and the architect fernanda canales.

“In 2015, in high school, I won a creativity award for the first time and it was the first time that I was recognized in that way. That’s when I found out about this list and I said ‘one day I want to be there’, so it feels really cool to know that my art is making a difference and that it has inspired people to fulfill their dreams. It’s something I always wanted that it happened and now that it is happening is a dream come true,” he added.

He also recently inaugurated at the Garcia Carrillo Theater Cultural Center of the Municipal Institute of Culture the exhibition “Imaginatopia” —which is still open—, where he shares some of the most relevant things he has done in his career, including his work in collaboration with brands like Crayola —with which he also served as a judge in a drawing contest convened by the brand—, Disney and Marvel.

He has also collaborated with PAME Kids, which seeks to raise awareness among children about poverty, with whom he did several drawing courses to raise funds for children in the Sierra Tarahumara; he worked with the magazine The Happeningsister of Forbes and other projects.

“For 2023, among the projects I have is one that, thanks to ‘Imaginatopia’, opened the doors for me in Durango, specifically in Gomez Palacio, in it Riddler Museumwhere I am going to open my first exhibition there, in March 2023”, he explained, adding that it is a completely different proposal from what is found in the García Carrillo.

He is also about to release his second coloring book, now with the support of a publishing house, and at the same time continues to work on his second animated short film —which would be ready by the end of the year—, titled “A spark of colour”which tells the story of Max “a young man who seeks to know himself and seeks approval and is an animated short film that talks about how this is perhaps not what we need the most”.

“I feel more than ever much more motivated to start more goals, to be able to fulfill more dreams. Right now with the list they told me that it was next to Guillermo del Toro, Iñárritu, Christian Nodalvarious celebrities who I admire a lot and this is a motivation to continue creating more and for me as an artist to see where else I can take my art and what else to do to support people”, he expressed.

“I want to invite people not to give up. I remember that there was one time, in high school, when I graduated, I applied for an award, after the one they gave me. creativity, and I did not win. So I was very sad for not having won it, but I said that in the future they would recognize me elsewhere and that was exactly what happened and with this recognition I think I can say that patience is key and if little by little we work on what we want, we can achieve great things”, he concluded.
