A tragic accident took place on Saturday January 31 on the runway of an airport in the state of Alabama. US authorities have opened an investigation.

Terrible drama at Montgomery Regional Airport, Alabama, in the eastern United States. An employee of a subsidiary of American Airlines has died after being “snatched by the engine” of a plane while the plane was parked at one of the landing gates.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it had opened an investigation into the accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

“A preliminary report is expected in two to three weeks”, indicates a press release relayed by several American media, including CNN and Insider.

The victim, for the moment anonymous, was employed by Piedmont Airlines, a local subsidiary of American Airlines. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” the airport wrote on Twitter on the night of December 31-January 1.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic loss of a member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines team,” said Wade A. Davis, Regional Airport Manager.
