The increase in cases of Covid-19 observed in this winter season has been attributed mainly to the subvariants of Ómicron.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health, in mid-October the positivity rate in Covid-19 tests was 8.1%, while for the first week of December it reached 36.8%, a level four times higher.

“Mortality is frankly low, fortunately this is the result of the extensive vaccination that has been carried out throughout the territory,” said the specialist at the morning conference on Tuesday the 13th.

This new wave of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has coincided with the increase in infections of influenza, another respiratory virus that usually spreads during the winter season.
