San Salvador 2023: Puerto Rico continues adding more medals

The Puerto Rican athletes continued adding medals for Puerto Rico on Monday at the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Kidaisha López, from Caroline, won bronze in the 71 kilogram division of the weightlifting tournament of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023,

The athlete completed her medalist goal with 94 kilos, in the snatch modality to come in third place. In clean and jerk she finished in fourth position with 116 kilos.

This is the second medal that weightlifting awards to the Delegation of Puerto Rico. The first one was from Howard Roche in the 55 kilos. Both bronze.

Meanwhile, Caleb Tirado from Arecibo formalized the first bronze medal for the Puerto Rican Delegation in boxing, in the 57 kilos.

The Puerto Rican took the bronze after losing by unanimous decision against the Venezuelan, Yoel Finol. It was in the first round that the Puerto Rican was beating his opponent with speed and agility. However, the second and third “rounds” were for the Venezuelan who looked fresh, fast and with marked blows to Tirado.

The past champion and bronze medalist of the first Junior Pan American Games Cali 2021, Sairy Colón, won bronze this Monday in her debut at the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

The woman from Vieques defeated the Mexican Leslie Villarreal in 40 seconds by ippon in the -78 kilos category. The determined judoka entered the tatami to finish the fight.

The rider Lauren Billys won this Monday the gold medal in the equestrian competition of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

With his horse Can Be Sweet, he triumphed against his opponent from Honduras in the show jumping event.

“I am very happy and grateful for winning the gold medal,” Billys said at the end.
