FC Schalke 04 and Florent Mollet go their separate ways. The French attacker has signed for Ligue 1 club FC Nantes for two and a half years. According to media reports, the Royal Blues will receive a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros.
In the summer, Schalke transferred EUR 500,000 to HSC Montpellier for the 31-year-old. Thus, Mollet flushes much-needed money into the Schalke club coffers – an economically lucrative deal. In terms of sport, things went badly for the offensive player. Only nine Bundesliga appearances and one goal are recorded.
“Originally, we had no intention of letting Florent Mollet go again after just six months. When the request from Nantes arrived a few days ago, it was the player’s explicit wish to be able to seize this opportunity. Personal reasons also played a role.”explains sports director Peter Knäbel.
And further: “With a view to the general economic conditions – the secure transfer income and the salary savings – we finally agreed to the change.”
