The forces of the local fire brigade were called to help more than 40 times in the year that was drawing to a close.

Schruns. (sco) On many Tuesday evenings, the Schrunser Florianijünger sacrificed their free time to carry out completely realistic exercises together. Because in an emergency, it is important to be absolutely sure-footed. On April 26, for example, the assumption of the exercise was a fire in the Garnatscha district. The property located there could only be reached via a narrow forest road. The journey time was about half an hour. The nearby water extraction point in the Garnatschatobel was dammed and a 400 meter long feeder line was laid to the fire object. 44 men took part in the exercise.

Boiler fire as an exercise assumption

On May 24, the fire brigade assumed a boiler fire at the Montafon natural heat. In this case, the task was to lay a feeder line to supply the tankers. The leading fire brigade Gantschier and the Red Cross also took part in the rehearsal. 39 men from the Schruns local fire brigade and 25 men from the Gantschier local fire brigade were involved in the exercise. On September 6, the exercise said: “Cellar fire on Gamplaschg”. A person trapped under a vehicle also had to be rescued. The youth fire brigade was also involved in this rehearsal. The fire brigade youth is included in two rehearsals per year. 36 active members of the OF and six members of the fire brigade youth took part in the rehearsal.

This year, the local fire brigade has already been alerted to more than 40 operations by pager. “Thank God we have been spared from a major operation so far,” said the Florianis, relieved. On April 16, at 7:45 p.m., the fire brigade was called to a forest fire on Montjola, where an Easter fire had gotten out of control. The extinguishing water was taken from a nearby drinking water reserve. After about an hour, the 37 men were able to move back into the equipment house. On May 8, the emergency services were called at three in the morning to a traffic accident on the L188 in Gantschier. Two cars had crashed into each other. When the fire service arrived, all the people involved had already been freed from their vehicles; the rescue took care of them. OF Schruns helped to remove the damaged vehicles and cleaned the road. At 4 a.m. the 35 men went back to the fire station.

A traffic accident on August 4 also ended lightly. Due to a medical emergency, a vehicle driver crashed into a shop window in the town center. The driver suffered a minor injury. Considerable damage was done to the display. The OF was deployed with 32 men. “We were called to many operations by the triggering of fire alarm systems. Fortunately, this has always been a false alarm. Nevertheless, it is also important here to move out quickly and effectively, as it could also be a major event,” emphasized the Schruns fire brigade under the command of Chief Fire Chief Lukas Beck.
