Disappeared after hiking: British actor Julian Sands is still being searched for in California – but the chances of a good outcome are dwindling.
Los Angeles – Four weeks after the disappearance of British actor Julian Sands (“Room with a View”) on a hike in California, the search for the 65-year-old continues.
A spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office told People magazine on Friday that search teams were still deployed in the area. They’re not giving up hope, but “the outcome may not be what we want it to be,” she conceded.
Sands left for a trip to the Mount Baldy area northeast of Los Angeles on January 13 and has not returned. The actor lives near Hollywood and, according to media reports, is an avid mountain hiker.
Mount Baldy is part of the San Gabriel mountain range and is almost 3070 meters high. The sheriff’s office issued a warning in January against hiking the mountain due to dangerous weather conditions with ice and snow.
The missing person’s family thanked the emergency services at the end of January. The rescue teams would “defy the difficult conditions on the ground and in the air to bring Julian home,” it said in a statement.
In his decades-long career, Sands has appeared in numerous other films and series, in addition to “A Room With a View”, such as “Naked Lunch”, “Warlock”, “Snakehead”, “The Killing Fields”, “Leaving Las Vegas”, “Arachnophobia”, “Smallville”, “24” and most recently “What/If”. dpa
